“I am still an autonomous artist but I don’t make autonomous objects. During the making I have thought past the moment in the display case or in the gallery where it comfortably leans on its friends. I, of course, can imagine it being worn by its owner but I can also imagine the moment where it is cast into the bottom of a handbag, lost on a footpath, found and resold on a market stall. I can distinguish it, not as an autonomous object enjoying the loving context of the gallery, but out in the world answering all sorts of difficult questions about what it is.”
